Music East Bangla | Money money | Tune/ melody from Bangladesh | Lyrics in English

The objective of Music East is to introduce eastern music to the western world. This video aims to introduce one of the beautiful Bangladeshi songs to an international audience. The song was sung by Zeenat Rehana, one of the best female singers in Bangladesh. This song was originally broadcast around 1970 – 1971.

I had many friends in Australia (all music lovers) who enjoyed listening to Bangladeshi songs. In a multi-cultural country like Australia, songs are sung in various languages and there are listeners and followers. I had sung many songs, but once I sung this tune, they had repeatedly requested me to sing again and again. Eventually, for their entertainment, I had sung this tune numerous times. The tune is definitely very melodious.

At one time I thought about writing English lyrics to make it an entertaining song for my Australian friends. That is how this song was re-created (firstly, a variation – remake in English) and then a remix with modern musical instruments. This English song is also a parody in a sense that it has some comedy and satire. This ‘money money’ song, once it was completed with lyrics, was much more enjoyable.

Most music lovers in today’s Bangladesh belong to the new generation and do not know much about the history of music in Bangladesh. Music East Bangla aims to record the history of Bangladeshi music and its gradual evolution.

Zeenat Rehana is not singing much these days and many people of our young generation needs to know her well. To my knowledge, this has been one of her most popular songs, and also one of the famous songs known to the seniors in this country.
