Policeman Shoots Women, Kills Self Near Bangladesh High Commission Building In kolkata at Park Circus.

A police person stands next to the mortal remains of a policeman, who allegedly fired several rounds outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.

A woman biker was shot dead after a policeman fired several rounds from his service revolver in Kolkata’s Park Circus area. The Police personnel then killed himself. The woman, who was riding pillion on a two-wheeler, fell down after being hit by a bullet as the on-duty policeman kept firing from his rifle, triggering chaos in the congested area, police said.

The incident took place near the Bangladesh High Commission building.

According to an NDTV report, the police personnel was identified as Chodup Lepcha.

“Chodup Lepcha joined the police around a year ago,” the Kolkata Police chief said as per the report.

“A woman is seriously injured. Others have minor injuries.”

It is also reported that the police will investigate if Lepcha was suffering from depression.

There are also several protesters assembled in the area to oppose former BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal’s comments against Prophet Muhammad. It was not immediately clear whether the crime was committed anywhere near the crowd or if the incidents were related

The whole episode lasted for around five minutes,” said a visibly shaken Bablu Sheikh, who claimed to have witnessed the incident.

A huge contingent of police reached the area minutes later and took away the bodies.

Preliminary investigations are underway, police said.
