Soon after Kaylie Harris, 21, came out publicly, she was allegedly raped by a fellow service member. Months later, she died by suicide. More than 40% of sexual assaults in the military are against lesbian, gay and bisexual soldiers. Kaylie’s story highlights a series of systemic failures that not only fail to protect gay service members, but military sexual assault survivors at large.
