Trump arrives at New York courthouse to face criminal charges as rallies gather

Donald Trump, the former U.S. president and front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination, arrived at a Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday for his arraignment on charges related to a hush-money investigation, as his supporters and detractors rallied outside.

“Donald Trump is a joke, right? He is a very dangerous joke. He’s been making fun of everybody, making a travesty of everything,” anti-Trump protester Lisa Fithian said. “Today is a very serious day in our country. It’s a historic day.”

Meanwhile, pro-Trump protesters expressed their support for the former president, saying that “President Trump, we love you. We support you. Thank you for everything you’re doing for us. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. Thank you for making us feel safe. Thank you for making our lives better.”

Trump, 76, is the first sitting or former president to face criminal charges. He was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury last week in a case stemming from a 2016 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, though the specific charges have yet to be disclosed. Trump has said he is innocent and is due to plead not guilty.
