History of Hatirjheel name: The Raja of Bhawal’s estate had a lot of land in the Tejgaon area, including Hatirjheel. The estate’s herds of elephants used to roam here to bathe or drink water, so it was named Hatirjheel over time. Hatirjheel has scenic bridges, beautiful white stairs and eye-catching fountains. There is a facility for boating in the water of the lake. Also, various development plans have been adopted around Hatirjheel. These include cultural centers, children’s parks, world-class theaters and fitness centers.

Hatirjheel is an area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, that has been developed for public transportation. The project area was inaugurated and opened to the public on January 2, 2013. As a result of the launch of this project, the residents of Tejgaon, Gulshan, Badda, Rampura, Mouchak, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar and Moghbazar areas of Dhaka are getting special benefits. The Hatirjheel project is being implemented and supervised by Bangladesh Army’s ‘Special Works Organization’ (SWO). One of the main goals of this project is rainwater conservation, waterlogging and flood prevention, development of waste water drainage system, decongestion of the capital and growth.
