more than 100 years old paddler steamer of Bangladesh is one of the classic and oldest river journeys in the world. These Paddlers steamers converted to diesel power in 1980 to 1990. This Steamer were built and Engined in the decade of 1930 at Calcatta by Denny of Dumbarton, Scotland. At that time these paddlers were the only transport System- to reach from Dhaka to Goalonda to take the train which bound to Calcatta.
Four of these historical paddler are still exist and operated by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation. That “classic” vessels in service on this route, are Mahsud, Ostrich, Tern and Lepcha until the time of making this film in 2020.
Historically, services in the area, on the lower Padma (Ganga) and Brahmaputra Rivers were in the hands of two companies, the Rivers Steam Navigation Company and the India General Navigation & Railway Company.
Mahsud and Lepcha were delivered to the former, Ostrich and Tern to the latter. From 1889, these companies worked closely together originally under the government of British India, independent Pakistan and then independent Bangladesh. Their surviving operations were nationalised by the government of Bangladesh in 1972.
Now it start journey from Dhaka-Sadarghat Ferry terminal to Morelganj Bagerhat with various intermediate stops. It Cross about 3 hundred 54 kilometres through 17 rivers in the Padma delta.
SOUND:
It takes approximately 28 hours but depends on the navigability of the river system at any given time. The journey passes through the Sundarbans, the vast and largest mangrove Forest of the world in the Padma (Ganga) delta which is teeming with exotic wildlife including World famous Royal Bengal tiger.

These Steamer Became historic and traditional because of Queen Elizabeth. In the year of 1961 Queen 2nd Elizabeth Paid a historic visit to Dhaka. During that visit her Excellency Queen travelled by this Steamer in the river of Burigonga and visited the world’s largest jute mill named Adamji jute mill of that time.
