Indian Reaction to Prarthona | Coke Studio Bangla | Season One | Momotaz Begom X Mizan Rahman

Devotion is #RealMagic

#Prarthona is an enticing spiritual song commending the divinity in all its forms. During the 1960s through ‘90s, severe droughts were prevalent in Bangladesh. The enchanting calling – “Allah Megh De” was a source of ethereal power for the people in the face of a natural calamity. It gave them hope time and again that God will make it rain and gradually the song become a part of the Bengali folklore. The summoning of the rainclouds can be heard in the song through the enigmatic clapping of khartal. The ancient instrument, mainly used in hymns, makes passage for Maizbhandari in the second part of the song. Originating from the Chittagong region of Bangladesh, the mystical folk genre is an expression of love for the divine and humanity.
“Prarthona” symbolizes the eternity of virtue and how the Real Magic of devotion can withstand the test of time, connecting generations, old and new.
