Ustad Rashid Khan, a headlining vocalist and by far the best exponent of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, was a gift to the music connoisseurs of Bangladesh at the maiden Bengal Classical Music Festival held in Dhaka in 2012. The aural experience of Ustad Rashid Khan’s rendition of Raag Puriya Kalyan was as much about his rich timbre as about substance and emotional vistas. The sheer brilliance of Pt Subhankar Banerjee’s accompaniment in the Tabla added great depth to the performance.
