He an innocent man, lives in a hamlet inside a forest. After differences with authorities, residents of the hamlet are forced to evacuate. To eke out his living, Shivu goes to the city with some of friends. When Shivu doesn’t get a job, he is forced to take the illegal route to earn money.
The life of crime leads Shivu to a comfortable life, but also makes him most-wanted with the cops. Shivu falls in love with Nandini (Chithra Reddy), who hails from a lower middle-class family. She wants to marry someone who will help her realise her dreams, which she sees in Shivu. But she is unaware of his life of crime. Will her love for Shivu change when she finds out this reality?
This is based on a true incident in Hassan. The film has an overdose of action, with a hollow story. A cute love story has been entwined with criminal incidents, but this does little for the film. The story needed to be refined to make it a commercial potboiler. The movie, which drags on for too long, doesn’t invoke much interest. The script is tailor made for Vinod Prabhakar’s performance, who sizzles by displaying his chiseled body. Some of his dialogues could appeal to his fans. Chaithra Reddy, as a traditional girl, has done justice to her role. Rugged is for die-hard commercial film watchers.
