Mayer Biye is a contemporary take on a mother-daughter relationship. Sreelekha Mitra plays a single mother, who shares an envious bond with her daughter (played by Saayoni Ghosh). Her daughter is all grown up now and is studying medicine, busy with her college, life, boyfriend, parties, and phone.
One day a realization dawned upon her that her mom will be all alone once she leaves for her higher studies.
That’s when her boyfriend (played by Indrajit Mazumder) suggests that she should get her mom married and find a companion. This triggers a new mission in the daughter’s life and leads to a series of events, ranging from the ludicrous to the awe-inspiring, where Sabyasachi Chakrabarty was the top contender to become her mom’s husband.
While Mayer Biye revolves around the unbreakable mother-daughter bond, it raises the question of whether girls need their father’s presence.
In today’s world, how open are we vis a vis our parents? How much time do we give them? Are we aware of their needs or are we too selfish and too involved with our own lives?
Mayer Biye is a contemporary look at parent-child relationships too and has a tongue-in-cheek flavour rather than being didactic.
