বঙ্গোপসাগরের মধ্য ও দক্ষিণ-পূর্বে সৃষ্ট অতি প্রবল ঘূর্ণিঝড় ‘মোখা’ ১৩ কিলোমিটার গতিতে উত্তর দিকে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে। ঘূর্ণিঝড়টি ভারতের আন্দামানের রাজধানী পোর্ট ব্লেয়ার থেকে ৫৩০ কিলোমিটার, বাংলাদেশের কক্সবাজারের দক্ষিণ-দক্ষিণপশ্চিম উপকূল থেকে ৯৫০ কিলোমিটার ও মিয়ানমারের রাখাইন রাজ্যের রাজধানী সিত্তে থেকে ৮৭০ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থান করছে।

১৪ মে রোববার দুপুর ১২টার দিকে অতি প্রবল ঘূর্ণিঝড়টি খুব সম্ভব কক্সবাজার ও মিয়ানমারের সিত্তের কাছে কিয়াকপিউ শহরের মাঝ দিয়ে বয়ে যেতে পারে।

ইতিহাসের বিভিন্ন সময় এই বঙ্গ ভূখণ্ডের উপর দিয়ে বয়ে গেছে ভয়ংকরতম কিছু সুপার সাইক্লোন। আজকের স্টার স্পেশালে আমরা জানবো এমন কিছু প্রলয়ঙ্করী ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের কথা।

The very severe cyclonic storm Mocha is moving northwards at a speed of 13kmph from the central and southeast of the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone was located 530km from Port Blair, the capital of Andaman, India, 950km from the south-southwest coast of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, and 870km from Sitte, the capital of Myanmar’s Rakhine state at 9:00am of May 12.

The cyclonic storm is very likely to pass through Cox’s Bazar and Kyakpyu town near Sittwe in Myanmar around 12pm on Sunday, May 14.

Many super cyclones have passed over this Bengal territory at different times.
