Briefing on the International War Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh

This luncheon briefing, co-sponsored by the American Society of International Law, the Crimes of War Education Project, and the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law, features a presentation by U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Stephen Rapp regarding recent efforts to restart the forty-year-old effort in Bangladesh to bring to justice those responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide dating to the 1971 War of Liberation. Some commentators have welcomed the accountability effort as long overdue, while others have expressed concern that it does not meet current international standards of due process. The presentation by Ambassador Rapp, who has recently visited Bangladesh to assess the process, is followed by commentary from expert discussants.
