कहानी :
डॉक्टर शरद (राज बब्बर) एक सीधा सुर्जन हैं जो मेडिकल प्रैक्टीशनर के नैतिकता को बखूबी बरतने का विश्वास रखते हैं। वह दीपिका (डिंपल कपाड़िया) से प्यार करते हैं जिसने उन्हें एक पत्रकार के रूप में प्रभावित किया था। शरद को एक गुंडे बिहारी (शक्ति कपूर) के साथ तकरार हुई थी जहां उसने पैसे के लिए अपने मरीज को मारने से इनकार कर दिया था। बिहारी कुछ देर बाद गिरफ्तार होता है। शरद एक मेडिकल कॉन्फ्रेंस के लिए हैदराबाद जाते हैं जहां उन्हें स्थानीय लड़की संसानी (पद्मिनी कोल्हापुरे) से मिलता है, जिसे उन्होंने एक दुर्घटना से बचाया था।
संसानी शरद से प्यार करती हैं, लेकिन शरद जल्द ही हैदराबाद छोड़कर उसे असंतुष्ट छोड़ देते हैं। शरद दीपिका से शादी करते हैं, जिसके पिता की इच्छा के विरुद्ध, लेकिन उनके एक वरिष्ठ सहयोगी और मित्र डॉ. रिज़वी (शशि कपूर) का समर्थन होता है। लेकिन समस्याएं उत्पन्न होना शुरू हो जाती हैं क्योंकि शरद एक डॉक्टर के रूप में अपने काम में इतना उलझ जाते हैं कि वह अपने परिवार को ध्यान नहीं देने लगते हैं।उसकी बेटी को अनदेखा करने से उसे हिस्टीरिया की समस्या होती है जिससे उसके और दीपिका के बीच मतभेद पैदा हो जाता है। कुछ देर बाद, बिहारी वापस आता है और असली इंसान बनकर अस्पताल में शरद से मिलता है। उसने शरद से अपनी दुल्हन संध्या का इलाज करने के लिए कहा जो अंतिम हृदय समस्या से पीड़ित है। संध्या न केवल संसानी होती हैं, बल्कि वह लॉटरी टिकट जीतने के कारण अब करोड़पति भी हैं, जिसके कारण उसके सभी रिश्तेदार और बिहारी उसकी मौत का इंतजार कर रहे हैं ताकि वे उसकी सम्पत्ति को वसीयत में प्राप्त कर सकें।उसने उससे प्यार व्यक्त करने वाली एक पत्र लिखा था, जिसे दीपिका ने खोज निकाला जो उसे संदेहजनक बनाता है। उसके संदेह को और बढ़ाने वाला बिहारी अधिक घनिष्ठता के कारण संध्या और शरद के बीच बढ़ती हुई घनिष्ठता से नाराज़ हो जाता है। दीपिका अस्पताल पहुँचती है जहाँ संध्या शरद से शादी के लिए प्रस्ताव रखती है अगर उसका ऑपरेशन अच्छी तरह से होता है। दीपिका संध्या को अपने विवाहित जीवन के बिगड़ने के लिए दोष देती है, जिससे संध्या को महसूस होता है कि शरद एक विवाहित आदमी है।

Storyline
Dr. Sharad(Raj Babbar) is an upright surgeon who believes in upholding the ethics of a medical practitioner. He loves Deepika (Dimple Kapadia) who wooed him as a journalist. Sharad had a scuffle with a goon Bihari (Shakti Kapoor) wherein he refuses to kill his patient for money. Bihari is arrested soon afterwards. Sharad goes to Hyderabad for a medical conference where he meets a local girl Sansani (Padmini Kolhapure), whom he saves from an accident.
Sansani falls in love with Sharad but Sharad soon leaves Hyderabad leaving her heartbroken. Sharad marries Deepika against the wishes of her father, but with the support of a senior colleague and friend Dr. Rizvi (Shashi Kapoor) . but problems starts cropping as Sharad becomes so much entangled with his job as a doctor that he starts neglecting his family.His daughter develops hysteria due to his neglect and creates difference between him and Deepika. Soon after Bihari returns and meets Sharad in the hospital as a changed person. He asks Sharad to treat his fiancee Sandhya who is suffering from terminal Heart problem. Sandhya turns out to be none other than Sansani. Sandhya tells sharad that she is now a millionaire due to lottery ticket win, due to which all her relatives and Bihari are waiting or her to dies so that they can bequeath all her property.Sandhya asks her nurse (Aruna Irani) whether Sharad is married or not. Nurse realizing Sandhya’s feelings for Sharad, lie to her that Sharad is unmarried. Sandhya takes her treatment very positively hoping to marry Sharad when she gets well. Sharad gives her a novel to read to pass her time. accidentally, a love letter that he wrote to Deepika during their courtship was discovered by Sandhya inside the novel, which made her think that Sharad also loves him.
She writes a letter to him expressing her love, which is discovered by Deepika which makes her suspicious. her suspicion is further fueled by Bihari who is angry because of the increasing intimacy between Sandhya and Sharad. Deepika reaches hospital where Sandhya proposes marriage to Sharad if her operation goes well. Deepika accuses Sandhya for ruining her married life, which makes Sandhya realize that Sharad is a married man. She becomes reclusive and loses her will to live due to which her health deteriorates. despite earnest attempt by Sharad, Sandhya dies. her relatives refuse to sign the consent form as they want her signature in the property documents. they file a case against Sharad for operating Sandhya without their permission causing her death. how will the problem resolve formulates the rest of the story.
