New video system allows 999 and 995 callers to livestream certain incidents to operators

A new emergency video system will boost the capabilities of the police and SCDF. Leveraging on the technology in handphones, the EVS allows officers to quickly assess the emergency and decide on next steps. This is especially helpful when they have difficulty understanding the situation. When callers cannot clearly describe the nature or extent of their emergency, the EVS will help with such situations by streaming live footage of the scene from the caller’s handphone. The video livestream starts after callers click “agree” on an SMS link.
