Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the second day of this final Test match between Bangladesh and India coming live from Mirpur. After deciding to bat first on a slightly greenish track at Shere Bangla National Stadium Bangladesh couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity to put a massive total on the board as they were skittled out for 227 runs in 73.5 overs. Most of their batters got starts but failed to make it count as they threw their wickets away. Apart from the returnee to the XI Mominul Haque no one played impactful innings. Mominul was magnificent in his classy knock of 84 runs.

On the other hand Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin picked four wickets each while Jaydev Unadkat who returned to the Test XI after 12 years scalped a couple of wickets. Incame the Indian openers KL Rahul and Shubman Gill who had 14 overs to survive to the stumps on the first day. But due to bad light Bangladesh could bowl only 8 overs in which they created a couple of chances. While Rahul survived a close shout thanks to the proper usage of DRS Gill looked solid in the middle getting to 19/0 at the close of play.

Rahul will resume from 3 off 30 deliveries while Gill will be resuming from 14 off 20 deliveries. The plan for the visitors is simple that is to bat and bat till the close of play with as few wickets lost as possible. On the flip side the Shakib Al Hasan-led side would come doing all the homework on tackling the Indian batters and execute them quickly to get them all out as early as possible. Bangladesh need to be tight as they have only 208 more runs to deal with before the KL Rahul-led side come on the lead.

The pitch has everything in it for the bowlers. It was turning and bouncing sharply from the first session on day one and hence the hosts will bank more on the spinners to do the job. It has a hint of seam movement as well and with moisture on the surface which could be extracted early on the first hour of the day by the seamers. A quick recap of the day as India play out the remaining overs scoring 19 without loss trailing by 208 runs. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first on a green deck. India added another seamer in Jaydev Unadkat marking his comeback to the format after 12 long years but dropped Kuldeep Yadav who played a huge part in the victory last game.

The comeback man Unadkat picked up the first wicket of the match and of his Test career sending back Zakir Hasan in the 15th over. R Ashwin soon struck within the next 3 balls to dismiss his opening partner Najmul Hossain Shanto. Mominul Haque also making his comeback in the XI after a string of low scores then dug his feet in and took the team to lunch alongside Shakib Al Hasan. Umesh Yadav had some other plans as he sent back the Bangladesh skipper on the very first ball of the second session thanks to a poor shot selection from Shakib.

Mominul kept on batting and found the occasional boundaries owing to a few poor deliveries here and there and added 48 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim when the former skipper was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant when Unadkat induced an edge claiming his second wicket. Litton Das then joined Mominul and added 42 for the fifth wicket but departed after scoring 25 in 26 deliveries when R Ashwin got the better of him as he chipped one to KL Rahul at midwicket. Mominul brought up his half century with the score at tea being 184/5.
