At least three people were killed and several more are missing after an explosion rocked through a block of apartments on the Channel Island of Jersey, off the coast of northern France.
“We’ve all been to the scene this afternoon to see, as myself and my fellow fire chiefs, it is as I described this morning a scene of utter devastation,” Chief Officer of States of Jersey Police Robin Smith said.
Smith confirmed fire services had been called to the property on Friday evening before the explosion after residents reported the smell of gas. The three-story building had completely collapsed. He said the cause of the explosion would be subject to investigation.
