Less than 48 hours after Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed a water sharing deal, Abrar Fahad, a university student in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka was murdered because of it. Fahad was tortured and killed by fellow students for nearly four hours on campus. His crime was having posted on Facebook that he was unhappy with the water-sharing deal. His attackers are allegedly from a student body called Bangladesh Chhatra League, which is linked to Hasina’s ruling Awami League. At least 11 suspects have been arrested by the police and the Prime Minister has promised justice.
