Phones were being smuggled to Nepal
Special Staff East District has arrested two persons who were involved in procuring stolen/ snatched mobile phones and sending them further to Nepal for disposal.
Those arrested are :-
1. Munajir AliAge 32 r/o vill Maua Kheda Ganj ,Painga, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand
2. Prem Ahuja @ Deepak Age 36 yrsr/o Gali no 06, Balmiki Chowk,Jagatpuri Delhi
Team and Operation :-
In order to apprehend miscreants involved in mobile snatching and the disposal of the same, a team led by Inspector Satendra Khari I/C Special Staff East District comprising of SI Kuldeep Lamba, ASIs Shailesh, Neeraj, Mahesh , Rishi Pal , HC Virender, Cts Ravi, Sanoj and Vichitra under the supervision of Sh. Sunil Kumar ACP/ Operations/ East Distt and under the overall supervision of undersigned was constituted. The team started searching for stolen mobile phones and it was observed that several such mobile phones weren’t found active. The team came to know that there were some persons who were smuggling stolen mobile phones to Nepal, because of which it was becoming impossible to track down such mobile phones. The team deployed sources, rounded several suspects having such criminal antecedents, interrogated them and complied a data as to where stolen/ snatched mobile phones were being sold. The team zeroed in on one Prem Ahuja @ Deepak who was allegedly sending stolen/snatched mobile phones to Nepal though some middleman. It was a tedious task to identify the accused and track the whole disposal process. The team worked for almost 5-6 months and finally tracked down Munajir Ali r/o Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. He was the man procuring stolen/ snatched mobile phones from Prem Ahuja @ Deepak and sending them to Nepal. On the basis of secret information on 25.03.2022, the team apprehended Prem Ahuja @ Deepak from Jagatpuri and on his instance,Munajir Ali was apprehended from Village Jagatpur, North Delhi. On their instance, total 78 stolen/ snatched mobile phones were recovered.
Interrogation
On sustained interrogation, Prem Ahuja disclosed that he has been running a mobile repairing shop in Jagatpuri for the last three years. He came in contact with some bad elements who used to target mobile phones. They asked him to purchase these phones on marginal rates. Initially Prem Ahuja used to dismantle these phones and used those parts in repairing mobile phones. But soon he mooted an idea of selling these phones inneighbouring countries so that the stolen phones may not be tracked. He met Munajir Ali through one of his relative who was also running a mobile repairing shop in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. It was Munajir Ali who had contacts in Nepal. He coordinated the whole process of purchasing and sending the phones to neighbouring country.They started purchasing stolen/ snatched mobile phones, particularly Android phones for Rs. 3,500-4,500 and selling them off in Nepal at a profit Rs. 1,000/- a piece. It has also shockingly been disclosed by Munajir Ali that he sent several such consignment to Nepal through buses bound for Nepal. He used to give some cut to the staff of such buses also. This part is also being investigated.
Recovery & Cases worked out: –
Total 78 mobile phones have been recovered. Out of these, 43 have been connected to the cases registered in the East District.
Profile of the arrested persons: –
Prem Ahuja @ Deepak is a school dropout. He is married and has a kid from his wed lock. To earn quick bucks, he got into this illegal trade of disposing mobile phones. He has no previous criminal involvement
Munajir Ali is also a school dropout. He is also running a mobile repairing shop in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. He has no previous criminal involvement.
Indications are that similar racket is working for Bangladesh also. This aspect is also being investigated by the team.Also, further investigation is being conducted regarding those who were supplying stolen/ snatched mobile phones to Prem Ahuja.
