Welcome to the Part 2 of my #Meghalaya series. In this vlog, I have visited Dawki and also did boating in Umngot River. Dawki is a well-known destination in Meghalaya and you would find many pictures of Dawki (boats on top of crystal clear water) on Instagram. What I found so interesting about Dawki is the fact that it is just 2 km away from Bangladesh border. Dawki is the only road that connects India to Bangladesh. It also serves as a trade centre between India and Bangladesh. More than 500 trucks cross the border every day in peak season.
Umngot River
Other than the border, Dawki is also famous for its beautiful Umngot River. Boating in Umngot River has a mention in the list of almost every tourists and travellers. Umngot river in Dawki is also one the cleanest rivers in India.
Fishing is one of the main occupations in Dawki. Therefore, you would find hundreds of fishing boats in Umngot River.
Boating in the river:
You will be given life jackets. Although I am extremely scared of water, I took the courage to do boating in the river. One life and I didn’t want to have any regrets. One useful tip – When you sit on the boat, always sit in the center and do not make sudden movements, as the boats are quite narrow.
Throughout my life, I have been reading about Meghalaya, hearing people talk about the beauty of Meghalaya and now I am experiencing the beauty of this land of clouds. Trust me guys when I say this “you need to visit Meghalaya to know why it is a dream destination for many”. I have lived few of the best days of my life in Meghalaya during my Caravan Trip.
